IPL 2023: Kumble wants Rohit Sharma to bat at no. 4 for MI

Indian cricket legend and current head coach of the Mumbai Indians (MI) team, Anil Kumble, has recommended that Rohit Sharma should bat at the no. 4 position in the upcoming IPL 2023 tournament.

Why Rohit Sharma at no. 4?

In a recent interview, Kumble highlighted the importance of having an experienced middle-order batsman in the team, especially with the current MI squad. He believes that Rohit, who is an experienced opener, can bring stability and experience to the middle-order if he bats at no. 4.

The current MI squad

The Mumbai Indians have won the IPL a record five times, with the most recent victory coming in IPL 2020. However, they will be facing some challenges in IPL 2023, with several key players nearing the end of their careers.

The importance of a strong middle-order

With the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Kieron Pollard likely to occupy the top three positions in the batting order, Kumble believes that Rohit at no. 4 would provide the team with a strong middle-order. He stated that "with the current MI team, you need that experience in the middle-order".

Rohit Sharma's record in IPL

Rohit Sharma has been one of the most successful batsmen in IPL history. He has scored 5,650 runs in 207 IPL matches at an average of 31.31, with a high score of 118. He has also led the Mumbai Indians to four IPL titles, making him one of the most successful captains in the tournament's history.

Conclusion

It remains to be seen whether Rohit Sharma will bat at no. 4 for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023. However, Kumble's recommendation shows that the team is looking to strengthen their middle-order ahead of the tournament.
